1935年探戈之王卡洛斯加代爾(Carlos Gardel)因搭機趕赴巡迴演唱而死於空難，開啟了歌手與空難的不解之緣，1959年3個著名歌手(Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and Jiles Perry Richardson)一起死於空難的事件，成為唐麥克林(Don McLean) 1971年美國派(American Pie)一曲中的經典名句「音樂死亡的日子」(the day the music died)。而1973年美國當紅的鄉村民謠歌手吉姆克勞奇(Jim Croce)亦死於空難，則讓艾伯特漢蒙(Albert Hammond)寫下我不想死於空難(I don't wanna die in an air disaster)這首歌。但是悲劇並未就此結束，1990年德州藍調吉他之神史蒂威瑞旺(Stevie Ray Vaughan)死於墜機，1997年約翰丹佛(John Denver)也搭機離開(Leaving on a jet plane)。
艾伯特漢蒙(Albert Hammond)的我不想死於空難，描繪乘客在墜機前短短數分鐘內的惶恐與怨嘆，傳達一種死於非命前的哀嚎。
