第一段主要是敘述女主角看透了男主角的花心，在夜裡離開傷心地，她過去一直祈禱男主角能夠專情，但路燈閃耀如北極星，指引著她斷然的離開。through有看透的味道，也暗指她已看穿男主角的真面目。

第二段描述女主角坦白地告訴男主角，不必再像以往痛哭流涕到她家懺悔，因為她已下定決心要離開。〝You can find me out walking in the sun〞其中〝out〞用的巧妙，表示女主角要「走出」以往作繭自縛的悲劇。in the sun與前段northern star都代表她要脫離以往的黑暗，迎向光明。〝But I know a heartache when I see one〞是歌詞的靈魂，即便男主角唱作俱佳，騙了女主角好久，但女主角在幾回傷心過後，終於看穿男主角的真面目，不再上當。
