此歌原名〈白蘭蒂〉(Brandy)由英國雷鬼歌手史考特英格利許(Scott English)作詞，他於1971年灌錄此曲成為英倫熱門單曲，作曲者是李察柯爾(Richard Kerr)。1971年巴瑞曼尼洛(Barry Manilow)翻唱此曲，為了避免與鏡子合唱團(Looking Glass)的暢銷曲〈白蘭蒂妳是個好女孩〉(Brandy You're A Fine Girl)混淆，而改名為〈曼蒂〉(Mandy)，後來收錄在巴瑞曼尼洛Barry Manilow II(1974)的專輯當中。巴瑞曼尼洛改編了此曲最後一段歌詞(Yesterday’s a dream I face the morning ..)的曲調，並以情歌舒緩的方式來演繹，果然造成極大轟動，拿下告示牌冠軍。30年後西城男孩(Westlife)翻唱此曲，單曲曾於2003年獲英國榜冠軍。隨著歌曲的成功，曼蒂(Mandy)究竟是誰？一直是八卦媒體熱中探究的議題。傳言曼蒂其實是隻狗，後來原作詞者史考特英格利許出面澄清，會有這樣的傳言其實是當年英國小報記者一直打電話追問白蘭蒂(Brandy)是誰，他被煩到受不了，腦海中閃過靈犬萊西的意像，於是脫口而出白蘭蒂是他養的一條狗。不過曼蒂或白蘭蒂究竟是誰，目前仍是個謎。
