1995年迪斯奈(Disney)的卡通「風中奇緣」，原名寶嘉康蒂(Pocahontas)上映，片中有諸多好聽的歌曲，其中又以「風之彩」(Colors of the Wind)最為動聽並寓意深遠。「風之彩」由史蒂文舒茲(Stephen Schwarts)作詞， Alan Menken曲，片中由聲優Judy Kuhn配音演唱，片尾曲的版本則是由Vanessa Williams演唱。榮獲1995年奧斯卡金像獎最佳原創歌曲(Best Original Song)，以及同年金球獎及葛拉美獎的最佳電影歌曲獎項(Best Song Written for a Movie)。

史蒂文舒茲寓意深長的歌詞，是這首歌感動人心、發人深省的關鍵。他援引美國原住民的觀點：「生命的本質乃源自大地」，以詩意的手法呈現人類和大自然的關連。

在唱這首歌之前，史密斯船長(Captain John Smith)和印地安公主寶嘉康蒂(Pocahontas)的對話是在討論「野人」(savages*1)。
史密斯船長言談中提到「野人」這個字眼，
並且認為他和他的民族所做的事情是在「幫助提升野人們的生活品質」，
而寶嘉康蒂對於她和她的同胞被稱為「野人」不以為然，
所以唱出「風之彩」(Colors of the Wind)這首歌，
歌曲的內容是說，這個未被開發的世界裡有很多美妙的事物，
而這些事物是像史密斯船長這種自稱「文明人」的傢伙不曾用心體會到的...
（意思是，真正無知、體會不到萬物之美的是像史密斯這種人，而不是那些原住民。）當時她們之間的對話如下：
John Smith: We've improved the lives of savages all over the world.
Pocahontas: “Savages? ”
John Smith: Uh, not that “you're” a savage.
Pocahontas: Just my people!
John Smith: No. Listen. That's not what I meant. Let me explain, uh...
Pocahontas: Let go!

接下來，在唱出Colors of the Wind之前，
Pocahontas還多唱了一小段，內容如下：

*1. savages：寶嘉康蒂教訓史密斯船長要開啟心胸感受自然，並且避免種族岐視。誰是野人？不懂得珍惜大自然的才是野人，印地安老祖先對於大自然的敬畏，比諸後世人定勝天的想法真是當頭棒喝。

*2. wolf cry to the blue corn moon：狼對著藍色彎月嗥叫，狼對印地安人是而言是大地的守護神，而藍色「玉米」月亮，玉米則是印地安人的主食，這裏是以玉米比喻月亮的形狀。狼對著藍色彎月嗥叫，似乎在喚醒人類不要再破壞大自然。

*3. sycamore：生長快速的一種楓樹，象徵生生不息。

寶嘉康蒂（Pocahontas, 1595—1617）是波瓦坦(Powhatan)部落的公主。她的一生衍生了一個極浪漫的傳奇。她的真名是瑪托阿卡(Matoaka)，寶嘉康蒂事實上是她童年的暱稱，意思是「小淘氣」(little wanton)或者「好玩的小女孩」，代表著她的個性。她是波瓦坦酋長(Chief Powhatan)瓦渾蘇那寇克(Wahunsunacock)的女兒。波瓦坦酋長統治幾乎整個維吉尼亞的潮水區域（當時叫做Tenakomakah）。因為寶嘉康蒂從來沒有學會書寫，現在已知關於她的所有事情都是由其他人傳到後代。真正存在在歷史中的寶嘉康蒂，大部分的思想、感覺和行動，依然是未知的。她的故事成為她死後幾個世紀許多浪漫傳說的根源，包括迪士尼電影風中奇緣（Pocahontas）和2005年的電影新世界（The New World）。
